Golden Designs Karlstad 6-Person Hybrid Outdoor Sauna | Traditional & Infrared

The Golden Designs Karlstad GDI-8226-01 is a 6-person hybrid outdoor sauna that gives you a genuine choice every session: fire up the 8 kW Harvia electric traditional stove for high-heat steam therapy, or switch to the PureTech™ full spectrum infrared system for deep-penetrating FAR, MID, and near infrared warmth. Two completely different sauna experiences in one permanent outdoor structure — built to last through any climate with an all-weather exterior and a rich Canadian Red Cedar interior.

The traditional stove mode runs hot. The Harvia 8 kW heater brings the cabin to an ideal range of 170–185°F, with a maximum of 190°F — the kind of intense, steam-driven heat that opens pores, drives heavy sweating, and delivers the classic sauna experience many enthusiasts grew up with. Add water to the rocks for löyly, the burst of steam that defines traditional Finnish sauna culture. It's a fundamentally different physical sensation than infrared heat, and for many users it remains irreplaceable.

Switch to infrared mode and the experience shifts entirely. The 13-heater full spectrum system — 4 PureTech™ Near Zero EMF FAR infrared carbon panels and 9 near infrared elements — generates deep, consistent warmth at lower ambient temperatures. Near infrared is the shortest of the three wavelengths and is absorbed closest to the skin. FAR infrared is the longest and does most of the heating. Together they deliver a layered infrared session that supports circulation, muscle recovery, and cellular wellness at temperatures that feel comfortable for longer stays. The near zero EMF design keeps electromagnetic exposure minimal during infrared sessions.

The interior is finished entirely in natural Canadian Red Cedar — a wood prized for its natural oils, moisture resistance, and distinctive warm aroma that intensifies with heat. The cabin features an oversize interior chromotherapy lighting system with Red Light Therapy, an interior backrest with accent white lighting, and exterior accent lighting that makes the Karlstad as visually striking at night as it is functional during the day. The interior LED control panel with built-in FM station and Bluetooth connection and built-in performance speakers keep your audio seamlessly integrated into every session.

The Karlstad ships with sauna accessories included: a sandglass, bucket, and scoop for traditional sessions, plus stainless steel hinges and handles throughout. Two large tempered glass windows and a glass door give the cabin a modern, open aesthetic that distinguishes it from enclosed wood-panel outdoor structures. The unit is designed for both outdoor and indoor installation, with an all-weather exterior that handles sun, rain, and temperature variation without degradation.

Electrical requirements are significant: this unit requires a 240V/40 AMP direct-connect hardwired installation for both the traditional stove and infrared system. A licensed electrician is required to install the dedicated circuit before setup. This is standard for any full-size outdoor sauna with a commercial-grade stove, and the investment in electrical infrastructure pays back across years of daily use.

Their outdoor hybrid line represents the premium tier of their catalog — combining traditional stove heating with PureTech™ full spectrum infrared technology in all-weather structures built for permanent outdoor installation. The Karlstad is rated for residential and light commercial use.
